FLOW’s Book du Jour: Caragh Thuring | Watch

posted in: Book du Jour | 0

Watch assembles images of watch advertisements that Caragh collected from the pages of the Financial Times, a UK newspaper, over several years. Each image shows the watch with the hands at ’10 to 2′, the time always shown in photographs of watches, apparently because it creates a balanced composition which is received positively by the viewer.

The collection of adverts reveals the linguistic tropes for this particular commodity – family, heritage, ambition, success, wealth.

The book is hand-bound and produced in a small edition of 10 copies.

Caragh sourced the paper stock from the printers of the Financial Times and so the thin pale, pink pages of Watch are instantly recognisable in the UK.

Watch was produced to accompany Caragh’s exhibition at the Chisenhale Gallery in London.
